Piedmont Oakland California<br />
William R. Yelland designed the rambling, 5500-square-foot Erskine House in Piedmont, California during 1925-26. Like designer-builder Carr Jones, Yelland was a firm believer in the traditional role of architect as master builder, and he reportedly installed much of the interior brickwork himself prior to the building’s completion in 1929. The home’s third owners once recalled their delight at visiting the elderly Yelland at his Berkeley residence in 1962 and being presented with the original blueprints for the house, which remain with it to this day.
